Assessment of the state of siege: The Senate grants 48 hours to the government for appropriate responses

Kinshasa, September 30th, 2021 (CPA) – The government has requested forty-eight hours from senators, to come back with appropriate responses to the concerns of elected officials on the development of operations on the ground, since the start of the state of siege decreed in Nord Kivu and Ituri, during a plenary session chaired, on Wednesday, by the speaker of the upper house of Parliament, Modeste Bahati Lukwebo.

The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, the Minister of State in charge of Justice, the Minister of State in charge of Budget, the General Administrator of ANR, the Head of State -Major of FARDC, the general commissioner of the Congolese National Police, all registered the various concerns of the elected representatives on this exceptional operation initiated by the Head of State.

The room of the wise wishes to have clarifications on the issue of the effectiveness of operations on the ground.

The Senate, which emanates from the provinces, wants to support the determination of the President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, who makes the restoration of peace in the eastern part of DRC a priority of his mandate.

« The purpose of this meeting is to discuss with the government so that we are fully informed about the real situation prevailing in the provinces of Nord Kivu and Ituri, at this time of the state of siege and that we can, through our recommendations and our suggestions, contribute to the victory of our armed and security forces, so that peace returns to our country”, declared Modeste Bahati.
