11% tax on DRC exports to the USA

Kinshasa, April 4th, 2025(CPA) – Customs duties on products exported from the Democratic Republic of Congo to the United States of America have been set at 11%, according to a White House price list imposed on countries in Asia, the European Union and Africa consulted on Thursday by the CPA desk.

‘American products arriving in the Congo are taxed at 22%. US President Donal Trump has decided that any Congolese product arriving in the United States will henceforth be taxed at 11% of customs duties’, read the White House’s mercurial.

‘Anything they do for us, we’ll do for them. It’s a two-way street. This is the day the United States declares its economic independence’, added Donald Trump. These new customs tariffs will apply to every nation on exports to the United States, and these new taxes on imports are expected to bring in several hundred billion dollars a year for the US federal government.

It should be noted that the DRC had benefited from customs facilities to export agricultural products to the United States under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) adopted in May 2000 by the US Congress and signed by President Bill Clinton. The AGOA aims to help sub-Saharan African countries increase their access to the US market in order to improve trade.
