Kinshasa, June 26th, (CPA) – ‘Voices of the East’ is the theme of a Congolese fashion show scheduled for June 30th in Paris, France, in solidarity with the victims of the war of aggression in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the organizers announced on Thursday during an interview. « On June 30th, our Independence Day, we will celebrate Congolese and Pan-African fashion at the Ecole Duperré in Paris in solidarity with the suffering people of eastern DRC. This is a socially conscious fashion show, a cry for peace, a celebration of contemporary African creativity as part of the fourth edition of the “Tamasha Fashion Week” event, which is being held in Paris, » said Nathalie Omana, administrative secretary of “Kivu-Mode Production”, the event’s organizer. ‘At the École Duperré, it will not be just a pan-African fashion show, but a powerful cry to make the voices of the victims heard and demand international justice,’ she added. For his part, the director of Tamasha Fashion Week said that this initiative is a bridge between African-Congolese creativity and the international scene. ‘The initiative highlights talent from often marginalized regions, while sending a strong message of Congolese resilience, solidarity and social transformation through fashion,’ said Salm Leking Nzongana. He continued: « Fashion or “sape” is not just about aesthetics. It can also be an act of resistance. This fashion show gives a voice to forgotten communities, denounces injustices linked to the exploitation of resources, and celebrates dignity through textile art. » ‘From Bukavu to Goma to Paris’ is the motivating concept behind this socially conscious fashion show, which allows fashion designers to express the pain of a city of resistance. ‘It is a symbol of trajectory and elevation. It embodies the dream of a creative youth who, despite conflicts and challenges, manages to spread their art from eastern Congo to the world’s capitals. It is a journey of memory, pride and hope,’ said the Director of Tamasha Fashion Week. « Fashion designers will come to demonstrate their resilience and remind the world that a Congolese person does not give up. Each garment will carry a specific message about the current situation in the country. On 30 June, Bukavu will not simply be showing fashion, but also the memory of its dead, dignity and peace. The same goes for Goma. It will be an opportunity to show a city that is wounded but still standing. A wounded but dignified people, » he said. Models, fashion designers and stylists, as well as designers from the two sister provinces of North and South Kivu and other countries on the continent, will be in Paris to showcase the creative potential of Congolese fashion on the international stage. It should be noted that Tamasha Fashion Week is organized every year in Bukavu. It is for security reasons in this region, which is occupied by aggressors, that the event has moved to Paris. This 2025 edition is supported by the École Duperré in Paris, a renowned institution committed to excellence and innovation in the field of fashion and design.
