Kinshasa, May 9th, 2025 (CPA) – A sanitation campaign called ‘Bala Bala eza Wenze te’, involving the demolition of pirate markets along the arteries of Kinshasa, a megalopolis of fifteen (15) million inhabitants in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been announced in a press release by City Hall issued on Thursday.
‘Governor Daniel Bumba has announced the “Balabala eza wenze te” campaign and called for the demolition of pirate markets along the roads from this Thursday. This operation is being launched to rid the streets of Kinshasa of pirate markets’, it is read. According to the source, the decision to launch this campaign has been taken by Governor Daniel Bumba during a technical working session held on Wednesday May 7th, 2025.
‘During this meeting, the urban authority has reiterated its firm determination to put an end to pirate markets along the roads of the Congolese capital, one of the causes of insalubrity’, has added the source. The source went on to say that the governor has also called on the mayors to get involved in mobilizing revenue in order to provide the provincial executive with the necessary means to carry out urban road construction and rehabilitation projects. The meeting has been attended by members of the provincial executive, the burgomasters of municipalities, as well as the heads of the Kinshasa sanitation authority (Raskin) and the Special Brigade for the Protection of the Environment and Social Welfare in the City of Kinshasa.
