Awareness on security governance in Kinshasa: the involvement of a municipality’s administrative staff requested

Kinshasa, April 15th, 2025 (CPA) – The involvement of districts chiefs in raising public awareness of participatory security governance was called for on Monday at a workshop organised in Masina, a municipality in the east of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

As Burgomaster of the municipality of Masina, I declare this workshop opened and I ask the neighbourhood chiefs to raise awareness among the population, each in their own neighbourhood, of participatory security governance for the advancement of our municipality’, has declared Joseph Shiku, Burgomaster of Masina. He took the opportunity to call on these administrative officials to remain alert and to light the flame of vigilance by constantly raising awareness among their constituents.

During the course of this awareness-raising at local level, Mr Shiku also asked the authorities who manage the districts to improve their ways of managing the population, before inviting the participants in this workshop to allow themselves to be trained to do better on the ground. ‘For me, as the number one authority in Masina, this training will further encourage us to be active, and we must apply it so that it is visible on the ground with a view to the advancement of the patriotic municipality of Masina’, he has said. This workshop on raising public awareness of participatory security governance was organised by the municipality of Masina, with the support of the civil affairs section/Monusco and technical assistance from the General Inspection of Territorial Affairs.
