Kinshasa, May 12th, 2025(CPA/MAP) – On Monday, the Republic of Burundi reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara, the international media have reported. This position was expressed by the Burundian Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Albert Shingiro, in a joint press release signed on the occasion of the first session of the Moroccan-Burundian Joint Cooperation Commission, held in Rabat and co-chaired with the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Resident Abroad, Nasser Bourita. The head of Burundian diplomacy hailed the international momentum generated over the years by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in favour of the Moroccan identity of the Sahara and in support of the Moroccan autonomy initiative. He also reiterated the Republic of Burundi’s constant position in favour of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the whole of its territory, including the Sahara region, reaffirming his country’s support for the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom as the only credible and realistic solution for resolving this regional dispute. Mr Shingiro has also welcomed the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for reaching a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the Sahara dispute.
