Kinshasa, April 19th, 2025 (CPA)-A call for entries for a literary and artistic competition entitled “Lumumba is 100 years old”, aimed at honoring Patrice Emery Lumumba, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was launched in Kinshasa from April 15th to May 15th, an administrative source told us.
“We want to reconnect young people with the history of the Congo, and offer them the opportunity to explore the legacy left by this national hero through art and literature. The aim of this project is to awaken emerging talent and promote writing practices among young people,” said Gina Indiang Antsam, Managing Director of Editions Elembo. “In partnership with the Lumumba Foundation, this competition invites young people to express their creativity by writing a poem, producing a comic strip or a cartoon celebrating Patrice Emery Lumumba, an emblematic figure in the history of the DRC and Africa”, she added. “We want to encourage young people aged 12 to 25 to develop their artistic and literary talents. Works submitted will be assessed on criteria such as quality and compliance with the competition rules”, she explained. The winners will have the opportunity to have their works published in an exceptional collection entitled “Lumumba is 100 years old”, published by Éditions Elembo. In addition to the publication, the winners will receive a cash prize of 1,000,000 Congolese francs and a surprise kit from Éditions Elembo.
Founded in 2024, Éditions Elembo’s mission is to instill in young people a taste for and pleasure in literature. It aims to reveal and promote emerging talent. ACP/
