Capacity-building for Resolution 1325 sectorial focal points

Kinshasa, April 29th, 2025 (CPA) – The sectorial focal points of Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security have received capacity building on their roles in the implementation of the third generation action plan, at a workshop organised on Monday by the Ministry in charge of Gender. ‘This workshop should help to improve the knowledge of the focal points on the content of the third-generation NAP 1325, clarify the role and responsibility of each actor, and ensure that sectorial policies and budgeting are taken into account by the sectorial ministries and structures concerned, in order to improve the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda’, has declared Alda Chanty Tuluka, who represented the Minister in charge of Gender, Family and Children. She has stressed that, given the fragile security situation in DRC and the repeated crises in the East; Resolution 1325 remains an essential tool for lasting and inclusive peace. Pointing out the innovations contained in the 3rd generation NAP, she has shown that the general objective of this capacity-building workshop is to ensure that the focal points take ownership of the third generation NAP 1325, with a view to its integration into the policies, strategies and programmes of the sectorial ministries and other structures. For her part, Catherine Ondimba, deputy representative of the UN Women, has indicated that the 3rd generation NAP must influence the peace process underway in DRC. Ondimba, This actual session, which will end on April 29th, should help to involve the focal points in strengthening the initiatives of civil society organisations in order to influence the WPS agenda, and to carry out a self-assessment of the first and second NAPs, to see how the 3rd generation NAP can mobilise the stakeholders so that the voice of the focal points is heard loud and clear in order to have an impact on the on-going peace process. This two-day activity, from April 28th to 29th, supported by UN-Women and financed by Norway, addresses several themes in order to facilitate the focal points’ understanding of this essential issue.
