Kinshasa, June 1st , 2025 (CPA).- The Democratic Republic of Congo’s candidacy at the United Nations Security Council is based on the vision of speaking for an Africa that is an actor in its own destiny, has declared the President Tshisekedi, during a ceremony on Saturday in Kinshasa, the capital. ‘We know where we come from, and it is with this vivid memory that we want to be the voice of an Africa that is an actor in its own destiny,’ has indicated Felix Tshisekedi, in closing the campaign for DRC’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2026-2027. ‘This candidacy for the Security Council is much more than a privilege: it is a mission. A mission to bring the voice of Africa, its aspirations and its solutions to the heart of world debates”, he has added, emphasising that DRC aspires to be an actor in the world peace, faithful to the African Union’s vision for a peaceful Africa by 2063. Felix Tshisekedi has, on behalf of the Congolese people, expressed his deep gratitude to his brothers and sisters in Africa, in particular to the Heads of State of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS_CEEAC) and the African Union, who have endorsed and promoted DRC’s candidacy. To conclude, the Head of State has invited his African peers to vote for DRC’s candidacy. ‘Voting for DRC means voting for a clear and ambitious vision of collective security. It means choosing an Africa that takes responsibility and provides global solutions,’ has said the Congolese President. ‘This is both a moment of pride and a rendezvous with history that we, the Congolese people, are preparing to live, he has concluded. For her part, the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Therese Kayikwamba Wagner has praised the work accomplished by the Congolese diplomacy and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to actively contribute to peace, security and justice, as well as to make a balanced and constructive African voice heard within the Security Council. ‘DRC is ready to serve, to listen and to contribute with the dignity of a state resolutely committed to cooperation and solidarity,’ she has said. According to her, DRC’s candidacy is motivated by its strong experience in the areas of peace, post-conflict resilience, ecological transition, sustainable development and multilateral governance. As a reminder, on June 3rd, 2025, the United Nations General Assembly will elect five new non-permanent members of the Security Council for the period 2026-2027. DRC is one of two African candidates whose candidacies have been endorsed at the sub-regional and continental levels. If this candidacy is approved by the Security Council, it will be DRC’s third experience on the Council, following its terms in 1982-1983 and 1992-1993. ACP/
