Discussions in Kinshasa focus on improving the Congolese education sector

Kinshasa, May 15th, 2025, (CPA) – The improvement of the Congolese education sector was the subject of a discussion on Thursday in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a head teacher. ‘Some concrete measures need to be put in place to improve the Congolese education system. These will support both state and public schools. I suggest strengthening school infrastructure’, said Chadrack Taba, prefect of the Mokili-mwinda school complex.  ‘It would be better to invest in the construction and renovation of school buildings, which are still essential. This includes the creation of adequate classrooms and laboratories, to ensure a conducive learning environment’, he added.  In the same context, this head teacher called for the introduction of in-service teacher training programs and the funding of schools for children from low-income families.  ‘We need to set up in-service training programs for teachers to improve their teaching skills. This could include workshops, seminars and partnerships with international educational institutions. This must be accompanied by financial support, in particular financial subsidies for schools, especially those catering for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds’, said Mr Taba. He also pointed out the high cost of school supplies for poor households, not to mention limited access to technology and digital tools.
