Kinshasa, June 8th, 2025 (CPA) – The police operation called ‘Ndobo (hook)’, against urban banditry, will be extended to the provinces of Lualaba (south of the Democratic Republic of Congo) and Tshopo (north-east), the deputy prime minister in charge of the interior announced on Friday at the 46th Council of Ministers meeting, according to the minutes. ‘On the subject of banditry and crime, the Ndobo operation, which is continuing in the provinces of Kinshasa, Kongo Central, Haut-Katanga and Kwango, will shortly be extended to the provinces of Lualaba and Tshopo’, said Patrick Muyaya, government spokesman. He pointed out that, in the city of Kinshasa, the measures taken and the operations undertaken had made it possible, among other things, to catch certain gangs of robbers who were causing concern among the population and who had been brought before the judicial authorities. ‘Convinced that security governance at grassroots level is a strategy that enables our populations to take ownership of this issue, he (the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Interior) has announced the forthcoming launch, after Kinshasa, Kongo Central, Haut-Katanga and Kwango, of local provincial security committees in the province of Lualaba’, said Patrick Muyaya. At the previous meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Interior also announced that the number of police officers assigned to private security would be reduced as quickly as possible, in order to strengthen the teams deployed in the field and effectively combat the robbery phenomenon.
‘At this meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Interior also presented the report on the state and administration of the territory, in which he indicated that the mood of the population remains calm, marked in particular by the satisfaction of national public opinion, following the election of the DRC as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2026-2027’, concluded the Minister of Communication and Media.
