Kinshasa, April 2nd, 2025 (CPA) – During a dinner with President Félix Tshisekedi on Monday, the Muslim community of the Democratic Republic of Congo was invited to become more involved in efforts of all kinds to restore peace in the east of the country, the Congolese Presidency said on Tuesday.
‘The entire Congolese population expects the Muslim community to play an active part in efforts to restore peace’, declared President Félix Tshisekedi. The Head of State said this during a dinner offered to the leaders of the Islamic Community of Congo (Comico), in the company of several members of the Government, on the occasion of the celebration of Eid el-fitr marking the end of Ramadan, at the City of African Union (AU) in Kinshasa.
The Guarantor of the Nation reiterated his call for the unity of the Congolese people to consolidate peace throughout the country. In his address to the Comico at the opening of the month of Ramadan, President Felix Tshisekedi had already expressed his compassion for the Muslim community living in the east of the country, which was having difficulty spending the month of Ramadan because of the Rwandan aggression.
‘As you prepare to enter the period of devotion and meditation that is the holy month of Ramadan, I would like, on my own behalf and on behalf of the entire national community, to extend to you my most sincere wishes. (…) I am aware that this Ramadan comes at a particularly difficult time for our country, marked by brutal aggression, particularly in the east of the country, where a large community lives’, wrote the Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi. Eid al-Fitr is the Muslim holiday marking the end of the fasting period of the month of Ramadan. It is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal (April). It is also sometimes called ‘Aïd as-Seghir’, ‘the little feast’, as opposed to ‘Aïd al-Kebir’, ‘the big feast’.ACP/
