Kinshasa, July 2nd, 2025 (CPA) – Sharing experiences on the application of transitional justice was the focus of a meeting between the Congolese Minister for Human Rights and a Colombian delegation in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the ministry’s account consulted on Wednesday. « This meeting between the two countries reflects a shared desire to promote human rights, lasting peace and inclusive justice in a spirit of South-South cooperation, » said Chantal Chambu, Minister in charge of Human Rights. She added that this exchange represents an opportunity to enrich the ongoing process with concrete examples from elsewhere, while promoting traditional conflict resolution mechanisms specific to local communities. Minister Chambu added: ‘This visit comes at a time when the DRC has been facing armed conflict for several decades and is seeking to establish a transitional justice process adapted to its realities.’ She noted that Colombia, for its part, is often cited as an example of post-conflict reconciliation mechanisms, particularly through the work of the Truth Commission and the peace agreements with the FARC. According to the Minister in charge of Human Rights, this South American mission aims to strengthen the exchange of experiences on justice mechanisms implemented in contexts of internal conflict. The head of the Colombian delegation said: ‘We have come to meet with the Minister for Human Rights in order to discuss what we have already done in terms of transitional justice. The aim is also to learn from what the Congolese are doing in the context of traditional justice.
