DRC: Council of Ministers discusses the need to rehabilitate priority roads in a number of provinces

The Minister for Rural Development

Kinshasa, May 11th, 2025(CPA),- The urgent need to rehabilitate a number of priority agricultural feeder roads in the provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo was raised on Friday by the Minister of State for Rural Development during the Council of Ministers, according to a government report received by the CPA on Saturday.

‘The Minister for Rural Development has informed the government of the urgent need to rehabilitate priority agricultural feeder roads in North Kivu and Ituri on the one hand, and those that can facilitate supplies to the town of Isiro and its environs in Haut-Uélé on the other,’ said Yollande Elebe, Minister for Culture and the Arts. The Minister of State in charge of Rural Development, Muhindo Nzangi, took the opportunity to go over the various priority roads involved with a fine-tooth comb.

The aim of this rehabilitation, he said, is to facilitate the resumption of road traffic in order to maintain the flow of supplies from the agricultural basins to the major consumer centers.  The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo, through the Ministry of Rural Development, had planned to rehabilitate more than 11,000 km of priority agricultural feeder roads and 38,000 other ordinary roads each year throughout the country.
