Kinshasa, April 12th, 2025 (CPA) -The Democratic Republic of Congo’s accession to the Council of Europe’s Enlarged Partial Agreement is a strategic opportunity to strengthen the country’s presence on the international stage, the Minister in charge of Human Rights told the Council of Ministers in Kinshasa on Friday. “Our country’s accession to the Council of Europe’s Enlarged Partial Agreement represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen its presence on the international stage,” said Patrick Muyaya, Minister of Communication and Media and Government Spokesman, in the minutes. He also stressed that this membership will enable the country to benefit from a multilateral cooperation framework that fosters democratic development, the promotion of human rights, and the exchange of best practices in governance. Minister Muyaya also noted that the benefits of this membership would include the promotion of human rights, the rule of law, technical expertise and recommendations for improving public policy in terms of respect for fundamental rights and governance. Council of Europe partial agreements are agreements between several Council of Europe member states to participate in a specific joint project. In most cases, they are also open to the accession of non-member states.
