Kinshasa, July 6th, 2025 (CPA).- Activism by the ‘Mobondo’ militia has been declining in the west of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for several weeks, according to a report by the deputy prime minister for defence, contained in the government minutes, consulted by CPA on Saturday.
‘In the Kongo-Central triangle, Kinshasa and Grand Bandundu (…) significant progress has been made in operations against the Mobondo militia, whose impact on the civilian population has diminished significantly over the past few weeks’, Guy Kabombo, Deputy Prime Minister for Defense, was quoted in the document as telling the government. ‘The DRC’s armed forces are relentlessly pursuing the hunt for Mobondo elements who remain hostile to the peace initiatives in this part of the country’, he continued. In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of National Defense informed the government that the armed forces’ plans remain unchanged, with the continuation of joint operations against the ADF/MTN in the Manguredjipa forest, in Lubero territory (east). He also revealed that the Congolese army had neutralized an enemy aircraft in the territory of Fizi, in the locality of Minembwe, in the province of South Kivu, in the east of the country. ‘In this context, surveillance capabilities have been considerably strengthened throughout the country. The air force intercepted and neutralised an enemy aircraft while it was attempting to supply hostile elements in the Fizi territory, particularly in Minembwe’, also revealed the Deputy Prime Minister for Defense. ‘The FARDC have remained on the alert in the face of attempted attacks on their positions by the aggressors and their allies. In South Kivu, the front lines have been kept in check, with the FARDC putting up fierce resistance to all the enemy’s attempts to advance’, he reported. ‘In other provinces, in the absence of proven direct threats in their respective areas of responsibility, the commanders of the military regions supported the actions taken by the Congolese National Police against the various forms of urban crime recorded during the week’, the document concluded.
