DRC: more than USD 21 billion in exportations to China by 2024 (Chinese ambassador)

Kinshasa, April 29th, 2025 (CPA) – The exportations from the Democratic Republic of Congo to China have exceeded USD 21 billion in 2024, has learned on Monday from a diplomatic source, on the side-lines of the inauguration in Kinshasa of the new headquarters of the Chinese embassy, a symbol of the dynamism of relations between the two countries.

‘According to Chinese customs statistics, in the framework of trade exchanges between the two countries, last year China has imported from the Congo products worth more than USD 21 billion, and we have exported to the Congo goods worth more than USD 4 billion. So the balance is largely in favour of the Congolese side’, has said Zhao Bin, China’s ambassador to DRC, at a press briefing. Speaking about the security situation in the east of the country, the Chinese diplomat has encouraged the Congolese government in its diplomatic efforts to eradicate the crisis and guarantee the safeguard of its territorial integrity. ‘China has for a long time been a victim of external aggression. We are particularly attached to the sovereignty and dignity of the State. That is why we unfailingly the support the efforts of the Democratic Republic of Congo to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. In the month of February, under China’s presidency of the Security Council, we have made efforts to ensure the unanimous adoption of Resolution 2773 in favour of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We are the first country to announce a ban on all economic activities by Chinese nationals in the conflict zones, i.e. in the eastern Congo’, the Chinese diplomat has maintained. ‘We have granted several humanitarian aid packages to the Congolese authorities in the form of foodstuffs, tents, medical supplies and a fund of 1 million US dollars in cash’, he has indicated, before adding: “In the future, we will of course continue to support the Congo on the ground, both bilaterally and through humanitarian actions”.

A new headquarters to strengthen the friendship between peoples

The new headquarters of the Chinese embassy in DRC

The creation of a platform for cultural exchanges between the Congolese and Chinese peoples is one of the missions assigned to the new headquarters of the Chinese embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China. ‘We want to use this embassy as a new platform for human exchanges between the Chinese and Congolese peoples. The ceremony to be held shortly will be marked by the opening of works from the Academy of Fine Arts, by Congolese artists. This is just the beginning,’ has declared Zhao Bin, adding that many other events will be organised in the new facility. ‘We are going to organise more ceremonies of this kind. A sort of open day for pupils and students to visit,’ he has added. According to him, this new chancellery is also intended to be a real showcase for China as a modern country, while contributing to the development of infrastructure and the embellishment of the Congolese capital. ‘We hope, with the construction of the new embassy chancellery, to add the creation of three new features to Sino-Congolese relations. Firstly, we want the new embassy headquarters to become a new showcase for China as it modernises and develops high-quality infrastructure. Secondly, we would like to make this embassy a benchmark for Sino-Congolese cooperation, with the many infrastructures built in DRC (cultural centre, People’s Palace), for the countries of Central Africa. And with its architectural complex, we want to contribute to the beautification of the city of Kinshasa’, he has said.ACP/
