DRC opts for the creation of an economic and financial criminal court

Kinshasa, April 21st, 2025 (CPA). – The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has opted for the creation of the Economic and Financial Criminal Court, at its council meeting held on Friday in Lubumbashi, main town of Haut Katanga, in the south-east of the country, according to a tweet from the Minister in charge of Justice consulted on Saturday by CPA.

 ‘This bold reform, driven by the President of the Republic under the coordination of the Prime Minister, constitutes a substantial revolution and a significant step forward in the fight against economic and financial crime’, it is read.

Council of Ministers held in Lubumbashi

According to the source, it is question of a project for the creation of the Economic and Financial Court as well as the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office attached to it, which has been adopted during the last Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Ministry in charge of Justice. 

Several other projects in the justice sector have also been proposed, including one to criminalise homosexuality in DRC, it has been learned. The same source has pointed out that all these draft laws are part of the recommendations made at the Estates-General on Justice organised recently in Kinshasa.
