Kinshasa, May 29th, 2025 (CPA). -The National Electricity Company (Snel) has announced a public auction of its stocks of scrap copper cables from Thursday, June 12th, 2025, according to a press release sent to the CPA on Thursday.
‘The General Management of Snel informs the public that a public auction of its stocks of scrap copper cables will take place from Thursday June 12th, 2025,’ it read. According to the Congolese public operator, the auction will take place at Snel’s regional offices in Lubumbashi and Kolwezi. The company says that the auction will involve several lots spread across various towns and industrial sites in the Democratic Republic of Congo, including Lubumbashi, Likasi, Kolwezi, Fungurume and the Nzilo and N’seke hydroelectric power stations. A total of 678.878 tons of copper will be offered for sale. According to the press release, interested applicants are invited to register at the Snel offices between 2 and 3 June 2025. Guided tours of the storage sites will be organized from 4 to 10 June 2025 to enable potential buyers to assess the available stocks.
‘The auction will be open to the public under the supervision of a bailiff. The starting price is set at USD 6,000 per ton of copper, excluding VAT’, said Snel. To participate, applicants must provide the required administrative documents, such as notarized articles of association, the RCCM, a valid tax certificate and proof of identity. Payment for the lots awarded must be made within two working days of the award. The Snel wishes to point out that any attempt to influence the selection process will result in immediate disqualification.
