DRC-Rwanda crisis: Trump supports the signing of the future peace agreement in Washington

Kinshasa, June 22nd, 2025 (CPA).- On Friday, the US President expressed his support on his social media account ‘Truth Social’, viewed by the CPA on Saturday, for the peace agreement to be signed next week in Washington, United States of America, between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. ‘I am very pleased to announce that I have concluded, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a wonderful treaty between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda, in their war, known for its violent bloodshed and deaths, even more so than most other wars, and which has been going on for decades,’ Donald Trump wrote on his social media account. President Trump also announced that representatives from the DRC and Rwanda would arrive in Washington on Monday for the final signing of the agreement.

‘Representatives from Rwanda and Congo will be in Washington on Monday to sign documents. This is a great day for Africa and, quite frankly, a great day for the world!’ he wrote.

According to a statement from the US State Department, government experts from the DRC and Rwanda have been finalizing the text of this future peace agreement in Washington since Wednesday. ‘The agreement, which will be signed at a ministerial meeting on June 27th, includes provisions on territorial integrity and the prohibition of hostilities, disengagement, disarmament and the conditional integration of non-state armed groups,’ the statement said. Since taking office as head of state, President Felix Tshisekedi has always shown his commitment to defending territorial integrity. In a press briefing a few days after the signing of the Declaration of Principles on the DRC-USA-Rwanda draft agreement, the Congolese Head of State said: ‘After what you are seeing, there will be no more problems of instability in the Democratic Republic of Congo.’
