DRC-Rwanda: the peace agreement signed in Washington welcomed by Minister in charge of Human Rights

Kinshasa,  July 1st, 2025 (CPA). – The peace agreement signed on Friday in Washington between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda has been welcomed by the Minister in charge of Human Rights, according to a statement from this ministry consulted on Tuesday by CPA.

« This agreement marks a major step forward on the path to stability, reconciliation and hope. As the Minister in charge of Human Rights, I strongly welcome the unwavering commitment of the President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, who, despite adversity, has never stopped believing in the possibility of real, just and lasting peace for our people, » it is read in the statement signed by Minister Chantal Chambu. According to the same source, the minister has also congratulated her foreign affairs colleague for the diplomatic rigour, tenacity and wisdom with which she has conducted the discussions that led to this agreement.

Furthermore, the Minister Chantal Chambu has reiterated that the agreement will be implemented in strict compliance with human rights, in accordance with the fundamental principles of dignity, freedom and justice that must guide any process of reconciliation and peace, has reported the source. She has  also reiterated that without justice, there will be no peace, before promising her compatriots who have suffered the horrors of war that justice will be done: ‘This step towards peace does not mean forgetting or impunity. I would like to reassure our compatriots, especially those who have suffered physically and emotionally from the consequences of the conflict, that justice will be done, the truth will be told, responsibilities will be established and the perpetrators of serious human rights violations will be held accountable for their actions before the law.’  CPA/
