DRC – Tanzania: exchange of land titles for the implementation of dry ports

Kinshasa, June 19th, 2025 (CPA).-An exchange of land titles for the implementation of dry ports took place on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania, in a ceremony co-chaired by the Congolese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in charge of Transport and his Tanzanian counterpart, according to a statement read by CPA on Thursday. « The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in charge of Transport, Transport, Communications and Accessibility, Jean-Pierre Bemba, co-chaired, alongside his Tanzanian counterpart, Professor Makame Mbarawa, the official ceremony for the transfer of land titles between DRC and Tanzania, » it is read in the statement from the Ministry in charge of Transport, Communications and Accessibility. According to the source, this meeting has taken place on the side lines of the 14th ordinary meeting of the Inter-State Council of Ministers (ICM) of the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (AFTTCC) in Dar es Salaam. The source has stated that it was within the framework of bilateral cooperation in transport and logistics that the two parties have preceded to a formal exchange of land titles for strategic plots of land intended for the establishment and operation of dry ports. In accordance with the bilateral agreement signed on June 7th ,2024 in Lubumbashi, in implementation of the Kalemie Memorandum of Understanding of July  19th, 2022, the concessions of Kwala (45 hectares) and Katosho (15 hectares) were granted to  DRC; 15 hectares in Kasumbalesa and 25 hectares in Kasenga for the benefit of the United Republic of Tanzania. These concessions will host logistics platforms and facilitate the transport of goods between the two countries, the source has continued.
