DRC: the energy supply of Kisangani at the centre of a discussion in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, May 6th, 2025 (CPA). – The energy supply to the town of Kisangani, main town of the province of Tshopo (south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo) has been at the centre of an exchange on Monday between the provincial authority and the General Director of the National Electricity Company (Snel) in Kinshasa, the country’s capital, according to a press release received on Tuesday by CPA.  « As part of an official mission to Kinshasa, the governor of Tshopo, Paulin Lendongolia Lebabonga, has held talks with the General Director of Snel, Fabrice Lusinde, with the aim of exploring options for improving the city’s energy supply. This initiative comes at a time when the city of Kisangani is facing an energy deficit », it is read in the Snel communique.  According to the source, the cooperation between the province of Tshopo and Snel could lead to the implementation of concrete measures designed to strengthen the existing electricity infrastructure, while incorporating innovative solutions adapted to the specific characteristics of the city and the province.

Photovoltaic power plant project

Alongside these institutional initiatives, the two parties have also discussed the photovoltaic power plant project currently underway, which will offer a promising alternative for diversifying the city’s energy sources.  The project, supported by the provincial authorities, will significantly improve access to electricity and reduce dependence on conventional infrastructure.  The determination of the head of the Tshopo provincial executive to establish an efficient and sustainable energy policy is part of a vision aligned with that of Head of State Felix Tshisekedi, which aims to improve the living conditions of the Congolese people through solid and resilient infrastructure. With these advances and strategic partnerships, the city of Kisangani is well on the way to a more stable and sustainable energy future, bringing hope and new prospects to the people of Kisangani.
