Kinshasa, June 3rd, 2025 (CPA). – The Musompo Special Economic Zone project, which involves investments in the manufacture of battery precursors, was the focus of discussions between the Ministers in charge of Land Affairs and Industry in Lualaba Province (southeast Democratic Republic of Congo), according to a statement consulted by CPA on Tuesday. “The Musompo special economic zone project was the focus of discussions in Lualaba province between Land Affairs Minister Acacia Bandubola Mbongo and her colleague Louis Kabamba Watum, Minister in charge of Industry and SME Development, for the manufacture of battery precursors and related services in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia,” it is read. According to the press release, Minister Louis Kabamba has announced that a mission will be sent to Lualaba shortly to conduct a site survey and reconfirm the data required for the documentation, authorization, and legalization of this process. The project was originally planned to be located in Kinsevere in the province of Haut Katanga, but after some studies, it was transferred to the province of Lualaba, specifically to the Musompo site in Kolwezi, has explained the source. In addition, DRC will no longer be just a supplier of raw materials, but also a key player in the global battery and electric vehicle industry thanks to its resources such as cobalt, lithium, manganese, nickel, and other strategic minerals. The Musompo Special Economic Zone will cover more than 900 hectares. With forecasts of more than 25,000 direct jobs and 60,000 indirect jobs being created, it will play a key role in developing the essential infrastructure to support the battery and electric vehicle industry. This project will promote the creation of small and medium-sized local industries and attract an estimated $2 billion in investment.ACP/
