DRC: The price of a ton of cobalt falls by 0.02% on the international market

Kinshasa, May 7th; 2025 (CPA). – The price of a tonne of cobalt, an export product of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has fallen by 0.02% internationally, trading at USD 33,012.00 on 5 May 2025, compared with USD 33,019.00 the previous week, according to a press release consulted by the CPA on Wednesday. ‘The price of a tonne of cobalt fell on international markets between 5th and 10th May 2025. Cobalt was trading at USD 33,012.00 in the week under review, compared with USD 33,019.00 the previous week, a fall of 0.02% per tonne’, read a press release from the Ministry in charge of Foreign Trade. The source also noted that for a fortnight, from 14 to 19 April and from April 21st to 26th, 2025, the price of a tonne of cobalt fell by 0.36% and 0.32% per tonne respectively on the international markets, i.e. USD 33,142.00 compared with USD 33,263.00 and USD 33,022.00 compared with USD 33,142.00.

The document also pointed out that during the period from April 28th to May 3rd, 2025, a number of fluctuations were observed on the international markets.  The price of a tonne of copper was traded at USD 33,019.00 compared with USD 33,022.00, a fall of 0.009% per tonne. However, it should be pointed out that the rise, fall and stability of prices for merchant mining, agricultural and forestry products are the result of supply and demand on international markets, as well as the supply chain. These variations have a direct impact on the Congolese economy, which is heavily dependent on exports of raw materials, particularly in the mining sector. ACP/
