DRC: Uélés-Rivers railway line put out to tender for modernization

Kinshasa, May 5th, 2025(CPA)-. The railway line comprising the Bumba-Aketi-Buta- Mungbere sections in the province of Mongala in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been put out to tender for rehabilitation and modernization in order to facilitate traffic, according to a press release consulted by the CPA on Monday. ‘The Ministry in charge of Transport, Communication Routes and Opening-up is launching an international call for expressions of interest (AMI) for the rehabilitation and modernization of the Uélés-Rivers railway, on the Bumba – Aketi – Buta – Mungbere sections. Interested candidates are invited to express their interest by June 30th, 2025 at the latest’, reads a press release from the Ministry in charge of Transport, Communications and Opening-up.

‘The aim of this strategic project is to strengthen domestic rail connectivity, open up the eastern regions and promote sustainable transport. According to the press release, the terms of participation, selection criteria and additional information are detailed in the document entitled ‘Call for entries’, which is available from the ministry responsible for this sector. It should be noted that the Democratic Republic of Congo is a sprawling country, requiring a combination of modes of transport to reach its various corners. There are rivers and streams, savannah and forest. Each mode of transport plays its part in ensuring that traffic across the country is complementary, so as to ensure the continuity of the roads, rivers and airways. ACP/
