Kinshasa, June 22nd, 2025 (CPA).- President Félix Tshisekedi was informed on Saturday of developments in Operation Shujaa, conducted jointly by the Congolese and Ugandan armies against negative forces in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, during a meeting at the African Union headquarters, according to the Congolese Presidency.

At the end of this meeting lasting several hours with the Chief of Staff of the Ugandan Army, the source added, the Head of State was sufficiently informed about the progress of Operation Shujaa, a joint military intervention by the FARDC and UPDF launched on the ground on November 30th, 2021. ‘General Muhozi Kainerugaba, Chief of the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces, and his Congolese counterpart, General Jules Banza Mwilambwe, signed the revised and updated memorandum of understanding on joint operations against the ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) and other local armed groups in Ituri and North Kivu,’ said Major General Sylvain Ekenge, spokesperson for the FARDC. ‘The signing was preceded by a working session between the two military leaders, again focused on strengthening joint operations, particularly Operation Shujaa, which continues to yield results against ADF terrorists in eastern DRC’, he said. The new cooperation agreement was signed to improve coordination, intelligence sharing and joint training. The two armies also reaffirmed their commitment to peace and stability in the Great Lakes region. Experts from both armies held discussions over two days to reach the signing of this memorandum, concluded the Congolese army spokesperson.
