Kinshasa, May 19th,2025(CPA)- The representative of the Secretary General for Fisheries and Livestock on Monday called on professionals in the sector to take up the challenges linked to animal health, at the opening of a training course in veterinary epidemiology organized in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. ‘I call on you to meet the challenges posed by the shortcomings in the animal health sector in terms of prevention, detection and rapid response to epidemics in the villages and territories of the deep Congo due to the lack of well-trained personnel’, declared Jean-François Balongola Ikona, Director of the Animal and Fisheries Quarantine Department, representing the Secretary General for Fisheries and Livestock. He pointed out that this training will enable the ministry to have well-trained, well-equipped epidemiological field staff to help protect human health, reduce animal losses, protect consumers, promote safe livestock trade and improve livestock farmers’ livelihoods and incomes.
According to Dr Papy Musasa, representative of the Director General of the National Institute of Health, building the capacity of veterinary professionals in the fisheries and livestock sector will gradually resolve the inequalities between staff trained in the two sectors.
