Energy transition: DRC reaffirms its role as a ‘solution country’ at a world forum

Kinshasa, May 6th, 2025 (CPA) – The Democratic Republic of Congo, through the Ministry in charge of Mines, on Monday has reaffirmed its determination to play its role as a ‘solution country’ in the global energy transition process, at the 18th edition of the Economic Cooperation and Development Forum (OECD), in Paris (France), according to a press release consulted on Tuesday by CPA.  (…) The Deputy Minister in charge of Mines, Godard Motemona, at the head of a delegation of Congolese experts actively has represented DRC at the 18th edition of the Economic Cooperation and Development Forum (OCDE), around the central theme ‘Forum on responsible mineral supply chains’. He has reaffirmed DRC’s determination to play its role as a ‘solution country’ in the global energy transition process », it is read in a statement from the Ministry in charge of Mines.  According to the press release, Godard Motemona has indicated that this theme was of vital importance in view of the global issues surrounding the exploitation of so-called critical and strategic minerals, some of which DRC can legitimately claim to specialize in, given its recognized mineral potential. The Deputy Minister in charge of Mines has, in this regard, underlined the Congolese government’s commitment to improve governance in the mining sector, by promoting the exploitation of mineral resources through win-win strategic partnerships, at the sub-regional, regional and global levels.

DRC is committed to finding solutions for the responsible exploitation of minerals

The source has, moreover, specified that Godard Motemona has highlighted the increasingly perceptible commitment of DRC in the search for solutions for the responsible exploitation of minerals, through adherence to regional and global initiatives while noting several challenges, notably security, the resolution of which requires the conjunction of several initiatives that take into account the profound aspirations of the Congolese people. At this high-level meeting of African mining ministers, Godard Motemona gave a speech outlining the Congolese government’s mining policy.  Issues relating to local processing and the process of making certification operational, as well as the role of artisanal mining and the NGOs, will be addressed by experts from the various departments on different panels during these OCDE meetings, on Tuesday May 6th and Wednesday May 7th 2025, it is indicated.  Referring to the situation prevailing in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the source added, the Deputy Minister in charge of Mines, Godard Motemona, has reiterated the fervent wish of the President of the Republic to see these advances become effective in order to achieve lasting peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
