Entrepreneurship: discussions on sustainable financing for SMEs

Kinshasa, May 27th, 2025(CPA).- On Monday in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), financial institutions and the World Bank discussed ways of providing sustainable financing for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), according to a press release from the ‘Transform’ project received by the CPA on Tuesday. ‘The TRANSFORME – DRC Project brought together the Microfinance Promotion Fund (ASBL and SA), financial institutions and the World Bank to reflect on concrete sustainable financing solutions for MSMEs at the headquarters of the Project Coordination Unit (UCP)’, the press release read the press release.

The source added that the aim of the meeting was to connect SMEs to the financial market, strengthen their access to credit and stimulate their growth over the long term. On the same occasion, the Deloitte-KE-IF Consortium presented the SMEs selected in the COPA business plan competition as genuine investment opportunities for banks and financial institutions. A strategic move to broaden portfolios and support the local economy, the same source said.

The Transform project is more than just subsidies; it is also a vision for a solid entrepreneurial ecosystem, structured and connected to the levers of financing. The aim of the ‘Transform’ project is to improve the growth and job creation of new and existing MSMEs, particularly those owned by women, in targeted geographical areas (Kinshasa, Matadi, Bukavu, Goma, Bunia, Mbuji-Mayi and Kananga).

Transform comes after the implementation of the PADMPME (Support Project for the Development of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises), which served as a pilot for the National SME Development Strategy updated in 2016.
