Lubumbashi, April 9th, 2025 (CPA).- The consolidation of national unity was recommended on Wednesday, to the population of the province of Haut-Katanga in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, during the meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior and Security in Lubumbashi. « Our country is going through a period of extreme insecurity. Let’s remain united, united and focused. We only have one country, one Nation. This Nation has been consolidated over the years since independence thanks to the founding fathers who were united, » declared Jacquemin Shabani, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Homeland and Security. Delivering President Tshisekedi’s message to the population, Jacquemin Shabani insisted on the need for national unity, while stressing the importance of consolidating cohesion between Congolese in order to overcome current challenges, notably Rwandan aggression.
“Without unity, without cohesion, we will be fragile”, he hammered, before urging the province’s sons and daughters to lead the fight for national integrity, i.e., for the country’s security. In addition, Jacquemain Shabani addressed the major security concerns facing the major towns of Haut-Katanga, notably Lubumbashi and Kasumbalesa, where urban banditry remains a major challenge. In this respect, he announced the extension of provincial security committees to the level of towns, territories and villages, with the participation of all Congolese citizens.
Earlier, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of the victims of the war of aggression in North and South Kivu, as well as those of the rainwater floods that hit Kinshasa last week.
