Lubumbashi, May 21st, 2025 (CPA) – The integration of beehives in agriculture contributes to climate resilience and the technical and economic performance of farms in Lubumbashi in the province of Haut-Katanga, south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the CPA learnt on Wednesday from an interview. ‘Beehives play different roles in the face of climatic shocks, namely: pollination of crops by bees, which helps to increase crop yields, even in difficult climatic conditions; diversification of crops to respond to climatic variations and changes in rainfall patterns’, reported Erick Kilomba Seya, an expert in urban agriculture, on the occasion of World Bee Day, celebrated every year on May 21st. . He continued: ‘The resilience of ecosystems, given that bees help to maintain the balance of ecosystems and strengthen their resilience in the face of climatic shocks. Their presence promotes biodiversity and soil regeneration’. He pointed out that thanks to the pollination provided by bees, crop yields are generally higher and of better quality, with a direct impact on farm profitability.
‘By taking into account the importance of bees in agricultural ecosystems, farmers can strengthen the sustainability of their practices and improve their long-term profitability’, said the expert.
