Lubumbashi, June 8th, 2025 (CPA) – Activities to mark the platinum jubilee of the Regina Mundi chapel began after a mass celebrated on Sunday in the hall of the Imara college in Lubumbashi, the capital of Haut-Katanga in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the CPA.
‘We are celebrating two events this Sunday: firstly the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ, the great feast of the Church, and secondly the platinum jubilee of the Regina Mundi chapel, i.e. seventy years of existence. I invite all Christians to maintain an emotional bond, an attachment and an identification with the Regina Mundi chapel’, said Father Typhon Cizihira, vicar provincial of the “Salesians” of Don Bosco, in his homily. Priest Luc Van De Kerkhove, director of the Imara College community, also spoke at the Mass, praising the efforts made to protect the chapel.
‘If the Regina Mundi chapel is the envy of the world, it’s because we’ve protected it so well. We’re thinking of modernizing it to attract more Christians, not only for its external beauty, but above all in terms of faith, to further educate Christians’, he emphasized. After Mass, a guided tour of the chapel was followed by an exhibition tracing the history of the chapel, whose foundation stone was laid in May 1956.
