Kinshasa, May 21st, 2025 (CPA), -Two productions of the show entitled ‘Et si je ne l’étais pas?’, by comedian Irène Ziyiruka, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, dealing with physical stereotypes in society, were announced to the CPA on Wednesday for this Friday and Saturday in Cergy, France, by the artist on Tuesday.
‘Et si je ne l’étais pas‘’ (And if I weren’t ) is a humorous and introspective show, intended as a reflection on physical stereotypes and the quest for self. Performances are scheduled for May 23rd and 24th at Cergy-Préfecture, in the town of Cergy, France’, said Irène Ziyiruka. Through personal anecdotes, comic situations and moments of self-mockery, the show questions the standards of beauty imposed by society and invites the audience on a journey towards self-acceptance.
‘The show is based around the theme of ‘thinness’, a term coined to describe the social pressure to conform to a slim figure in order to match an ideal. But beyond this specific theme, the show deals more broadly with the question of self-acceptance, bodily diversity and multiple forms of beauty’, explained the comedian, adding that the show also deals with “the judgments linked to appearance that some women face in society, and encourages self-acceptance”. The show, which is part of his artistic tour that began on May 17th in Mantes-la-Jolie, during the ‘Tuseo-Rire la joie’ festival, will have a new stage following performances in Cergy on May 23rd and 24th.
‘Scheduled in France, Belgium, Congo-Brazzaville, Cameroon and the DRC, this tour represents a great start to my professional career. For me, it’s a special opportunity to take my knowledge beyond my country and my continent, and above all to open myself up to international opportunities and relations’, she confided. Irène Ziyiruka Mulumeoderwha, a Congolese comedian born in Bukavu in 2006, trained at Collège Alfajiri, where she made her stage debut with the group Alpha-Art. In 2023, she went solo, then joined the Ecod’hum school. After making a name for herself at the Zéro Polemik 6 festival, she went on to perform at the Caravane du Rire (Laughter Caravan ) in a town in the Great Lakes region, and created her first show, ‘Et si je ne l’étais pas’ (What if I weren’t it?), advocating diversity and tolerance.
