Hydrocarbons: international oil price falls by 2.62%

Kinshasa, May 28th, 2025 (CPA) – The price of a barrel of oil, an export product of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been set at USD 63.87 for the week of May 16th to 23rd, 2025, compared to USD 64.62 for the previous period, a decrease of 2.62%, according to the economic report from the Central Bank of Congo (BCC) consulted on Wednesday by CPA. ‘The price of a barrel of oil has been set at USD 63.87 on May 22nd,  2025, a weekly decrease of 2.62% compared to the previous week, during which it has been traded at USD 64.62,’ it is read.  According to the source, this decline is attributed to concerns about US debt and the possibility of a further increase in production by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+). On an annual basis, the price of oil fell by 14.18%.

Changes in the prices of basic necessities

Meanwhile, the price of copper has been settled at $9,559.30 per tonne, a slight increase of 0.41% compared to the previous week. Since the end of December 2024, this metal has risen by 8.76%. The price of cobalt has remained stable at USD 33,011.00 per tonne, a level it has held since May 15th, 2025.  Compared to the end of December of last year, it has risen by 37.26%. The price of an ounce of gold has reached USD 3,336.91, recording a rebound of 6.30%. This change can be explained by the weakening of the US dollar and the continuing climate of political and economic uncertainty. Year-to-date, gold has risen by 26.43%. On the agricultural market, Rice has experienced a weekly decline of 1.45%, trading at USD 284.99 per tonne. In contrast, the price of wheat has progressed by 2.41% to reach USD 200.22 per tonne, due to unfavourable weather conditions. The price of corn has remained stable at USD 170.55 per tonne. Compared to the end of December 2024, the prices have decreased by 7.95% for rice, 0.98% for wheat, and 0.03% for corn.
