Kasaï Central: The impassability of 90 km of the Kananga-Munkamba road decried

Kananga, May 25th, 2025 (CPA) – The impassability of 90 km of the Kananga-Munkamba road in Kasai Central, in the center of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been decried by transporters, according to a press release consulted by CPA on Saturday. ‘Small vehicles are being forced to make a diversion to Kasai Oriental because of hot spots marked by potholes, quagmires and erosion heads that have made this dirt road impassable (…). ) small vehicles have stopped using this stretch of road, taking a diversion through the localities of Tshikula, in the territory of Dibaya, in Kasaï Central, and Mupompa, in Kabeya Kamuanga, in Kasaï Oriental, to reach Munkamba, in the territory of Dimbelenge‘, said Alain Lukeni, President of the Congolese Drivers’ Association, quoted in the press release. He suggested that trucks using the Kananga-Munkamba road cover this distance in 5 or 6 days with no hope of tomorrow, instead of 5 hours previously. He pointed out that small vehicles passing through Tshikula and Mupompa link the two regions in 3 hours, to the satisfaction of customers. However, motorbikes that take the perilous route through the towns of Tshimbawu, Katumba and the Dibaya territory, and exit at Mpanga (Dimbelenge) to reach Munkamba, are in a bad way. The Kananga-Munkamba road to Mbuji Mayi, in Kasai Oriental, has to contend with difficulties getting through Mwamba Mbuyi, Mwanza-Ngoma and Madila to its destination. The central government has taken to heart the need to rehabilitate this road, given its socio-economic importance. A Chinese company has been selected to carry out the maintenance work, thanks to funding from partners.ACP/
