Mbuji-Mayi, July 2nd, 2025 (CPA). – The situation of armed conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo from 1996 to 2025 is the focus of reflection by the scientific elite at an interdisciplinary symposium organized by an accredited private university in Mbuji-Mayi, the capital of the province of Kasaï-Oriental (in the center of the country), the CPA learned on Wednesday from the organizers. « This interdisciplinary symposium, held from July 1st to 3rd at the Protestant University in the Heart of Congo (UPCC) in Mbuji-Mayi, is the fourth for this alma mater. The theme being explored is: armed conflicts in the DRC (1996-2025), shaping local, national and international opinion. We have three objectives. The first is to reflect on the situation in Congo. The university has the traditional role of thinking about the issues that torment the population and finding solutions, » said Prof. Dieudonné Mbaya Ciakanyi, rector of the UPCC. ‘The second objective is educational. At a university, we organize things to prepare those who will be the nation’s leaders of tomorrow. But we also prepare those who will take over from those who are teaching today,’ he added. He continued: « We have noticed that we have been in the same cycle for 30 years, so we come up with a strategy and we invade, and when we agree, one side withdraws and creates something else. It’s a never-ending spiral. During this conference, we want to reflect on what has happened and then see what we can propose so that the Congo can get out of this situation once and for all in a scientific manner. » Twenty university professors are sharing their knowledge on this topic with a view to giving assistants and students a taste for research, according to the source.
