Kinshasa, May 19th, 2025 (CPA) – An accused was charged with ordering the murder of his concubine before the Kinshasa-Ngaliema military court, during a mobile court hearing at Ndolo prison, in the north of the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ‘We were satisfied with the way the hearing went, because our sole objective was to demonstrate to the court that Mr Makanzu was the intellectual author of our client’s murder’, said Maitre Guy Malakukia, counsel for the civil party.
‘We were able to show the court the contradictions between the minutes and what Mr Makanzu said. And we believe that in due course the court will draw conclusions that will be in our favor’, he added. He added that the military prosecutor’s office has all the possible evidence to show that Mr Erick Makanzu is the intellectual author of the death of the deceased Ruth Kanzu.
For his part, the defendant, Erick Makanzu, married and father of five (5) children, admitted to the court that he had been in love with the victim, Ruth Kanzu, as his concubine for at least two (2) years. He told the court that he had broken off with his lover seven months before his death, before rejecting all the charges brought against him by the military prosecutor’s office.
After hearing the parties, the presiding judge, Captain Guy Kweshi, adjourned the case to Monday, May 26th, 2025. The case dates back to March 6th, 2024, when the victim, Ruth Kanzu, was shot in the back at point-blank range by a group of soldiers in her father’s home at around 8pm in the Mitendi neighborhood in the commune of Mont-Ngafula. She died three days later in a Kinshasa hospital.
