Kinshasa: Electricity restored in Bandalungwa after being cut off due to excavation work

Kinshasa, May 11th, 2025 (CPA) – After several hours of electricity disruption, caused by an outage due to work by a Chinese company to install a water pipe, the National Electricity Company (Snel) announced that power had been restored on Sunday in the Synkin neighborhood of Bandalungwa and the GB neighborhood in Ngaliema. ‘We confirm that the 20kv J14 feeder antenna, on the section between the Lokala and Yengo cabins, has been successfully restored. All the cabins that were affected are now in service’, announced Dieu Merci Bwaka, Kinshasa-West /Snel Distribution Manager. The interruption was caused by excavation work carried out by the Chinese company Zhengwei Technical Corporation/Sarl, which was laying a water pipe on behalf of the Water Distribution Company. During the excavation, one of the company’s machines cut the 20 kv cable supplying the J14 feeder at the Utexco substation, plunging several neighborhoods into darkness. CPA/
