Kinshasa, April 9th, 2025 (CPA) .- Emergency works are being carried out in several parts of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, to prevent the consequences of torrential rains, as reported in a press release issued by the town hall on Tuesday. « Emergency works and construction sites are underway in several places to prevent or limit as far as possible the consequence of the torrential rains on human lives and the homes of the people of Kinshasa », it is read. The document also announced that the city of Kinshasa had engaged in works to clean up and secure badly damaged sites, with a view to enabling a return of disaster victims in safe and proper conditions to their homes. According to the source, the governor of Kinshasa has made this announcement during a visit to flood victims housed at the Tata Raphael stadium, in the centre of Kinshasa, and the Martyrs stadium, in the north of the capital. The urban authority, the document has continued, has brought the message of a city concerned about the safety and well-being of its population before assessing the care provided to the victims. « The aim of the governor’s visit is to ensure that the care provided meets the needs of those being accommodated, especially as new disaster victims continue to arrive on these sites », the statement has indicated. According to the information provided by the town hall, three hundred (300) new people had been accommodated at the Martyrs stadium at the time of the governor’s visit. And seven hundred and forty-three (743) disaster victims were already being accommodated at the same stadium. The Tata Raphael stadium installations have already received more than 1,000 people. ACP/
