Kinshasa: Financial education at the heart of training for women entrepreneurs

Kinshasa, July 2nd, 2025 (CPA).- Financial education was the focus of discussions on Wednesday during a training workshop for more than 50 women entrepreneurs, held from July 2nd  to 4th, July 2025 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). « This three-day workshop, from July 2nd to 4th, 2025, aims to strengthen the capacities of 50 women entrepreneurs through training and exchanges of experiences on financial education in order to prepare them to export their products to the African Continental Free Trade Area (Zlecaf), » said Betty Mulanga, president of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Congo (Afeeco). For his part, Ponpon Kalenga, trainer, defined the concept of ‘financial education’ in his speech.

‘Financial education is the set of concepts or knowledge that helps us manages our money wisely. It offers the opportunity to learn basic techniques for earning, budgeting, spending, saving and borrowing money,’ he said. Mr Kalenga took the opportunity to outline the five most important steps in financial education, namely: budget management, saving, credit, financial negotiation and digital financial services. He explained that the aim of financial education is to reinforce attitudes that lead to saving more, spending wisely and borrowing for good reasons. ‘Save when you have surplus income so that you can spend during periods when your income is lower than what you need. You should spend less during periods of low income. You will need to plan ahead so that you are not forced to borrow to meet your household needs,’ he urged. ‘Set your goals today to better achieve them tomorrow. Don’t spend more than you earn and think about saving. To manage your money well, distinguish between a need and a desire,’ he concluded.
