Kinshasa: material damage recorded at a Catholic university after rain

Kinshasa, May 10th, 2025 (CPA) – Material damage has been recorded at the Righini campus of the Omnia Omnibus university in Lemba, a municipality of knowledge in the centre of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, after the rain that fell on Friday in the city, an administrative source told us on Saturday.  ‘We have recorded significant material damage at the Righini campus of our Omnia Omnibus University after the heavy rain that fell yesterday Friday in the city of Kinshasa. The boundary wall has collapsed, a large part of the roof has been washed away and the auditoriums have been flooded’, has declared Professor Abbot Christian Ngazain, Rector of the Omnia Omnibus University. He has explained that no loss of human life has been recorded and that steps have been taken to ensure that classes are not interrupted, before appealing to all people of goodwill to intervene appropriately.

‘We have taken measures to ensure that classes are not interrupted in the interests of our students, but this situation could disrupt the continuation of classes if it rains again, so we need to intervene quickly, that is why we are launching an appeal if there are people of goodwill who can help us to repair the roof and the wall that have been damaged, which would be a relief for us because this disaster calls for urgent intervention to finish the current academic year properly’, has indicated the Abbot Rector.  Created by His Eminence Fridolin Cardinal AMBONGO, Metropolitan Archbishop of Kinshasa, in his Decree of May 14th, 2021, by grouping together the higher education establishments of the Archdiocese, namely the Faculty Institute of Development (IFAD), the Major Seminary of Philosophy Saint Andre Kaggwa, the Major Seminary of Theology Saint Jean XXIII and the University Seminary Jean-Paul 1st, the Omnia Omnibus University, a Catholic University of the Archdiocese of Kinshasa spread over four campuses, Kasa-vubu, Lemba, Ngaliema and Mont-Ngafula. The aim is to train a quality intellectual elite imbued with moral values who can work to transform Congolese society, with particular attention to young people from modest families. ACP/
