Kinshasa, June 16th, 2025 (CPA) – The National electricity company (Snel) has warned of a threat of collapse affecting the Boma electricity booth in the municipality of Selembao, in the south of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to a press release from the company received by CPA on Monday. ‘Alert! The Boma cabin, in the Bikinda-Lubudi neighborhood, in the commune of Selembao was not spared by the torrential rain of Friday, June 13th, 2025. The pole and the cabin are increasingly threatened’, we read.
The company said that the erosion protection facilities recently installed around this infrastructure as part of the Electricity Access & Services Expansion (EASE) project had been washed away. ‘All the erosion control measures put in place were simply swept away’, he said. According to the press release, Snel technicians have sounded the alarm and called for urgent intervention by the urban authorities to save this infrastructure, which was recently installed as part of the EASE project.
At the same time, the teams also mentioned the threat of collapse of the pylon of the old high-voltage line, out of service for several years, running along the Badiadingi/Makala trajectory, in the Madiata neighborhood, avenue Tuzolana N°20. If this weakened structure were to collapse, it could have serious consequences for the safety of neighboring installations and the energy supply. CPA/
