Kinshasa, April 3rd 2025 (CPA) – Persons whose number has not been revealed have been seriously injured in a traffic accident that occurred on Wednesday at the junction of Kasaï and Mbomu avenues in Barumbu, a municipality in the north of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has learned from an administrative source. ‘There has been an accident on Kasaï towards Mayi ya Bitshaku-tshaku, in the neighbourhood bearing the same name. It concerns a large tipper lorry that has ended its run in this river. There were four (4) people involved. Fortunately, there were no deaths, but some people were injured’, has said Christophe Lomami, burgomaster of the municipality of Barumbu.
‘It’s the driver who has a head injury. There were no deaths and the victims were admitted to a local health centre. And they are being looked after by the owner of the lorry. The only loss is that all the stone fell into the river’, he has added. According to him, there were two vehicles on the bridge, which is so narrow that it could not accommodate two heavy goods vehicles at the same time. ‘The problem is that two vehicles were on the bridge. The tipper truck was in the opposite direction. It wanted to let the one coming in front of it on the other side pass. It was by making this false procedure that the lorry ended up in the Bitshaku-tshiaku River’, has explained the head of this municipality. This accident is not the first of its kind on a bridge. Last year, eight people have been killed in a traffic accident at the exit of the Lunda Bululu Bridge, in the Bandalungwa municipality, in the centre of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
