Kongo Central: assistance from the provincial government for disaster victims in Kasangulu

Matadi, May 14th, 2025 (CPA).- A joint delegation from the provincial government and the provincial assembly of Kongo Central, in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Wednesday handed over humanitarian aid to the victims of the torrential rains of April 4th and 5th in Kasangulu, as well as to the survivors of a road accident on May 11th in this territory, has learnt CPA on Wednesday from a parliamentary source.  ‘We are the eyes and ears of the population. We have taken to heart the recent events that have affected the territory of Kasangulu. We made representations to the provincial executive, and here is the response to our representations’, has said Joseph Nsalambi, vice-president of the Kongo Central provincial assembly, praising the efforts of the provincial government led by Governor Grace Nkuanga Masuangi Bilolo.  The delegation visited the victims admitted to the Centenaire clinic and Kasangulu general hospital, as well as the site of the accident. The provincial government undertook to provide funeral services for the lifeless bodies kept at the Kasangulu morgue.  The official EP1 primary school in Kasangulu, chosen to accommodate the victims, was the last stop on the visit, during which humanitarian aid consisting of food and non-food items was handed out to those affected.  The disaster victims expressed their gratitude to the provincial government and elected representatives for this assistance, while expressing their desire for a lasting solution that would enable them to return to their respective homes.  The joint delegation, led by the provincial health minister, Ovide Yobila, who was accompanied by provincial deputies, undertook to relay these concerns to the provincial assembly and provincial government in order to respond positively to their expectations.
