Kinshasa, April 15th, 2025 (CPA) – An aid package from the central government has been delivered to 1,782 people affected by the recent torrential rains in the territory of Kasangulu, in the province of Kongo Central, in the west of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), CPA has learned from official sources.
‘We came to Kasangulu to see the damage and provide support to the affected populations in terms of food and non-food items. The province of Kongo Central was also affected by the flooding caused by the last rainfall between April 4th and 5th, has said Nathalie Aziza-Munana, Minister in charge of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity.
The Minister in charge of Social Affairs has handed over a number of essential items to the victims, who are being accommodated at the Mbolula Institute, before also visiting the Kasangulu general referral hospital to comfort the patients on behalf of the government. ‘This visit is part of the government’s efforts to assess urgent needs and coordinate humanitarian assistance’, she has added.
This gesture by the government of the Republic was welcomed by the elected representatives and customary authorities of this territory. ‘We would like to express our satisfaction to Minister Munana for this gesture, which will bring relief and joy to the families affected by the floods’, has said His Majesty Mfumu Di Fima, a traditional authority. For his part, Didier Anicet Mukolo Kinamvidi, national deputy for Kasangulu, encouraged the government and asked it to do more for the people of central Kongo, as they are in greater need of humanitarian aid. At least 240 households have been affected; with 100 families are left homeless and 128 houses damaged. The human toll stands at 11 people hospitalised and others receiving are receiving domiciliary care.
