Kikwit, May 19th, 2025(CPA)– Meat sellers on Monday called for the construction of a slaughterhouse at the main market in Kikwit, Kwilu, in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo, to enable butchers to work in hygienic conditions.
‘We are calling on the government to provide our market, which is the biggest in the town, with a slaughterhouse worthy of the name, so that butchers can do their job properly and in good hygienic conditions’, said Ms Blandine Mushila, a seller of cow meat and other species at the market. She added that the lack of a slaughterhouse means that butchers have to travel a long way to the Kazamba market, where there is a slaughterhouse, to do their work, while others use their stalls to skin goats, sheep and pigs on the spot, with all the consequences that this entails in terms of hygiene.
