Kikwit, April 29th, 2025 (CPA) – A price rise of grain maize has been observed on the various markets of the town of Kikwit, Kwilu province, in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), rising from 130,000 to Fc 180,000 (an increase of 38.46%) per 50kg sack, has noticed on Monday CPA. ‘A large 50kg sack of grain maize, which sold last week for Fc 130,000 is now being traded at Fc 180,000, while the small measure commonly known as ‘sakombi’, which used to be bought for Fc 1,300, is now being sold for Fc 1,500,’ has declared Anne Isulu, a seller of these products at the large market of Kikwit.
She has attributed this rise to the exhaustion of stocks of season A maize, pending the renewal of season B stocks, which will be harvested from June onwards.ACP/
