Kinshasa, April 30th, 2025 (CPA) – V.Club of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), beat Sanga Balende of Mbuji-Mayi in Kasai Oriental, in the centre of the country, by 1-0 on Tuesday at the Tata Raphaël stadium in Kinshasa, on the 2nd day of the National League of Soccer (LINAFOOT) championship. In fine form, AS V.Club’s only goal came from Ghanaian Denis Modzaka (38′), who has been a member of the club since January, according to Prince Liévin Nzazi, the club’s communications manager, when asked about the striker.
First win for V.Club and first defeat for Sanga Balende
In itself, the result in no way reflected the exact nature of the match, especially in the second half when Sanga Balende, more than dominant, came up against V.Club’s defence, and even more so against their goalkeeper, Farid Ouedraogo, who was voted ‘Man of the Match’ for his performance in the face of the opposition onslaught. With this short victory; V Club picked up their first 3 points on the circuit in two outings, at the same time handing Sanga Balende their first defeat of the series.
The Diables verts de Kinshasa derby between AS V. Club and DC Motema Pembe, scheduled for 1 May 2025, has been postponed to a later date by Linafoot, as stipulated in one of the sporting body’s press releases. According to the competition calendar consulted by CPA on Tuesday, the green and black club from the DRC capital is due to meet AC Rangers, another local club, on Sunday 4 May at 1pm at the Stade des Martyrs on matchday 3 of the play-offs. On the same date, barring any last-minute changes, SM Sanga Balende are due to host FC Tanganyika of Kalemie. Before the Red and Gold of Mbuji-Mayi asked to play in Kinshasa rather than Lubumbashi, this match was initially scheduled for the Kibassa-Maliba stadium in the DRC’s copper-rich city.
