Lualaba: The Musompo laboratory, an essential tool in the traceability of minerals

Kinshasa, June 10th, 2025 (CPA) – The modern Musompo laboratory in the province of Lualaba in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo is an essential tool in the mineral traceability and development chain, according to the Minister of Mines during his visit on Monday to the Expertise Centre in Kolwezi, the CPA has learned from an official source. 

‘Mines Minister Kizito Pakabomba visited the Centre for expertise, assessment and certification of precious and semi-precious mineral substances (CEEC). This modern laboratory is an essential tool in the mineral traceability and value chain’, he said. According to the source, the Minister in charge of Mines landed in Kolwezi, in the province of Lualaba, as part of the itinerary of the Head of State, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, who is attending the Governors’ Conference.

The same source pointed out that this modern laboratory Centre, strategically located in Musompo, brings specialist services closer to operators and local communities. It is also a Centre of excellence for mineral analysis, contributing to the Head of State’s objective of making the mining sector a real driver of economic development. The minister reaffirmed his desire to strengthen the capacities of the Ministry in charge of Mines’ specialist departments, not only in Lualaba, but throughout the country. He appealed to mining companies that are still reluctant to comply with standards, inviting them to rally behind the government’s vision of a modern, responsible and equitable mining sector. The presence of the Head of State, His Excellency Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, in the province of Lualaba marks the government’s commitment to making the mining sector a lever for development and a model of responsible governance at the heart of the President’s action.
